New Games Make Everyone a Winner

“Left foot, right foot!” Children shout in unison when they play Team Skis with the Leadership Education Adventure Program (LEAP), one of the YES House’s oldest programs. Throughout its history, LEAP has transformed many lives, allowing children to overcome their fears through rock climbing, backpacking and many other outdoor activities. Directors Dean Shearer and Aida Castro have witnessed teamwork during games likes Team Skis where kids have to join together in a joint effort, “They all start as individuals, and once they figure it out, they join together as a team,” Dean said of the game. The program tends to develop leadership skills in some kids as well as the mentors who teach the young adventurers. Both directors feel that being involved in LEAP have made them more professional, motivated and ready to talk in front of people. As college students, these directors have a lot on their plates, but always find time to give to this amazing program and would never take it for granted. “No matter what I do, I’ll take these skills with me.”
