It’s amazing what 100 volunteers can do in four hours! Every year, over 100 Y.E.S. volunteers gather on Cesar Chavez Day (March 31st) to serve our local community in a big way.  They also solicit sponsors to support our programming; it’s a win-win. A local organization gets a lot of people-power, and Y.E.S. is supported financially so that we can continue giving our time and efforts to the community.  Past community organizations that have been served by this annual event include: Jefferson Community Center in Eureka, Miranda’s Animal Rescue in Fortuna, the Kikshari Trail in Eureka, and the Botanical Gardens at College of the Redwoods.

This year approximately 130 volunteers will be going to The Jefferson Project, a community resource center whose mission in part is to “support and facilitate programs to combat urban blight and revitalize neighborhoods by increasing recreational, educational and vocational opportunities…” While there we will be planting trees, removing a construction fence, placing signage up and grooming their bocce ball courts!
